CONGRATULATIONS GLEN
Warmest congratulations to Glen Corcoran, who passed his Flying Skills Test in December, and received his PPL licence in January. Glen started training with us in November 2005. We apologise for the old photograph, due to constant paparazzi attention, Glen has restricted photo shoots to one a year.

STEVE TREMAINE COMPLETES CROSS COUNTRY QUALIFIER
The bad weather, which has been unfairly linked to Steve Tremaine finally relented to enable him to complete his Qualifying Cross Country landing at Plymouth and Perranporth before returning to Land’s End. We would like to make it clear that the fog, that struck most of England causing chaos just before Christmas, had absolutely nothing to do with Steve landing East of the Tamar. Congratulations Steve!

LATEST FACES IN THE TOWER
Over the next few issues we will be introducing the people you talk to, but may never see, from ATC.
Pictured right is Chris Pearson, who is not only the Manager of Air Traffic Services at Land’s End but is also the Airport Manager. Chris started his ATC training at Bournemouth in 1996, had a stint at Aldergrove (Belfast), before joining us in 1997, he became SATCO in 2001, and has since qualified as an Air Traffic Instructor in 2001,and gained his Meteorology Certificate in 2002. He is married to the lovely Kerri, and they have a beautiful daughter Abigail aged three.

CFI ASSISTS SENNEN LIFEBOAT
CFI Mark Hillier played an important part in the rescue of a group of kayakers who were in difficulty between Land’s End and the Longships lighthouse. Mark was flying an Islander to St Mary’s, on Wednesday the 27th of December. He was diverted by ATC Lori at the request of the Coastguard, after a Mayday call to assist the Sennen lifeboat which was having problems locating the kayaks in poor visibility and rough sea conditions. Mark circled the scene and helped direct the lifeboat which rescued all eight of the survivors, one of which was transferred RNAS helicopter, to Treliske suffering from suspected hypothermia.

FLYING SCHOOL NEWS
Pictured is our new part time instructor at the school Malcolm O’Brien. Malcolm, a first officer on the Twin Otter with Skybus, will be instructing with us whilst Skybus scheduling is quieter over the winter. Well, it beats donning the overalls and whitewashing the old clubhouse!

RYAN KENT WINS CAPTION COMPETITION
Ryan, our helpful Engineer, who helps provide Fire Cover on Sundays for us, won the caption competition held at our Mince Pie meeting just before Christmas. His prize was a choice of any vehicle for a day! He turned down the more obvious, such as a Ferrari, or even Chris Pearson’s Fiat Punto, opting instead for a day driving his bright red tug, pictured right.

LATEST
Former Operations Manager Alexis Milligan has sent this picture (right) to reassure us he is not suffering too much in his new life. We assumed we would receive news of his flying exploits in the USA, apparently the beautiful young lady is an essential part of his acclimatising to the American way of life.

CULDROSE AIR DAY
Westward Airways will be attending Culdrose Air Day which is being held this year on Wednesday the 1st of August. There will be at least one aircraft there and members of staff will be happy to discuss flying instruction, scenic flights and much more! Watch this space...
