The 'Pelagic Trip' visits an area West South West of
the Isles of Scilly known as the 'Wilsons Triangle'.
After leaving Penzance the Scillonian III follows the
coast towards Land's End before heading out
towards the Wolf Rock Lighthouse.
Fulmars, Kittiwakes, Herring and Lesser Blackbacked
Gulls follow the ship at the beginning of the voyage
but as you venture into deeper waters they begin to
fall back and less familiar species start to appear.
As you approach the Wolf Rock Lighthouse it is
possible to spy Manx, Mediterranean and Sooty
Shearwaters, Storm Petrels, Arctic and Great
Skuas plus several varieties of Terns and Auks.
Long-tailed Skuas, Sabine's Gulls, Cory's Shearwaters
and Great Shearwaters have also been seen in
abundance on previous trips, and always keep an eye
out for extreme rarities such as the Little Shearwater
and South Polar Skua.
Wilson's Petrels can usually be spotted amongst the
large numbers of Storm Petrels feeding on the offal
at the stern of trawlers.
In addition to many varieties of birds, we hope that
your trip is made special by the apperance of Common, Whiteside or Bottlenosed Dolphins.
