Walk Scilly - Sat 27 March 2010 to Sat 03 April 2010

Now in its 4th year WalkScilly aims to celebrate and reveal the beautiful Isles of Scilly.
It's hard to imagine a much better backdrop for walkers with cliffs, beaches, rock formations, rugged outcrops, soft and gentle sand dunes, amazing and diverse wildlife and all contained within a cluster of islands none of which is more than three miles across.

The programme of events has something for everyone and features over 30 guided walks, all of which are graded easy, moderate or hard. This year there are three new walks, featuring Wild Food, Art and a walk between the islands!
There is wide range of evening entertainment scheduled, with social events, multi-media shows, talks and music. This year WalkScilly2010 coincides with the Isles of Scilly Folk Festival bringing the best of traditional Cornish Folk music to the islands.

Isles of Scilly Travel are regular supporters the Walking Festival offering special discount rates for travellers attending this event.

The first Scillonian III sailing of the season is scheduled to depart on Saturday 27th March from Penzance to coincide with the start of the Walking Festival.  Adult period return fares are available at a reduced rate of £70 by quoting the “Walking Festival”.

The Scilly Folk Festival 31st March to 5th April 2010

For the second time, the astoundingly beautiful Isles of Scilly will host some of the country's finest folk musicians.

'The Isles of Scilly Folk Festival', is an event designed to celebrate folk music on Scilly and to bring some of the country's finest musicians to play on the islands.

Cornish superstars Dalla will again be the lynchpin of this friendliest of festivals, packing their extraordinary sound and dance into a container aboard Scillonian III to be unloaded and unleashed on Scilly. They will be joined this year by fellow musicians from Cornwall - Leski (a fantastic duo featuring hammered dulcimer virtuoso, Kerensa) and Sarah McQuaid with her stylish voice and extraordinary guitar technique.  The Rough Island Band will perform powerful material from their recent (and forthcoming) CD’s of music inspired by the Isles of Scilly; and the breathtaking voice of Vivien Ellis with Alva will close out the festival in the evocative candlelit surroundings of Old Town Church, not more than ten banjo-lengths from the sea...can a single shipping container hold so much great music?

The festival is also a chance to meet and play with island musicians, and to celebrate the thriving Scillonian folk music scene (a scene that predates the Folk Revival). There will be plenty of sessions, open-mike nights and workshops over a pint or two of Scilly's own locally-brewed ale.

This year, Scilly Folk Festival is overlapping with Walk Scilly (27 March to 3 April) -  the island's annual walking festival. There will be the chance to explore one of the world's most beautiful natural environments under the guidance of experts; to take in Scilly's amazing history, it's flora and fauna and it's extraordinary landscape of rugged coast, soft sand and gorse downland, then, when the walking is done, to rest the feet and let the music (and aforementioned ale) go to work....
