Throughout this vessel replacement process, the Isles of Scilly Steamship Company have been committed to finding the best design solution to meet the future service requirements of the company, our partners and island community.

There are choices that will have to be made given the unique nature of the route and the need to balance different factors. That’s why we are asking our customers, partners and employees to identify what is important to them. This information will be used by our project team and our naval architects BMT as part of the design process to ensure as many views are taken into account. Like with any project it is important to understand that some compromises will have to be taken. Our consultation process will be lengthy and involve many different stakeholder groups and as part of this process when the final designs are presented we will explain how decisions on designs are linked to the consultation process and substantiated by factual evidence of the infrastructure at Penzance and St Mary’s and other relevant data such as wave heights and wind speed.

We have conducted phase 1 of a very long consultation period, surveying the residents of the Isles of Scilly. All residents have been asked to submit responses to the survey to capture their views as part of a wider consultation. We asked islanders about how they use the current service, and how the usage might change in the future.

The survey was carried out between 5th August- 7th September 2020.
