Children and infants

Whether you’re pregnant, sailing with young children or allowing an older child to travel independently, we’re here to help make the experience smooth and reassuring.

Expectant Mothers

If you are more than 12 weeks pregnant and planning to travel to the Isles of Scilly, please contact the Cornwall and Isles of Scilly Midwifery Team before your visit. Letting them know you are on the islands helps ensure support and advice are available to you if needed while you are there.

You can contact the team on 01872 258000.

Travelling at less than 28 weeks

There are no restrictions for expectant mothers travelling with us before 28 weeks of pregnancy.

Please be aware that pregnancy can sometimes increase sensitivity to motion sickness, so you may wish to speak to a healthcare professional about suitable medication before you travel, just to help make your journey as comfortable as possible.

Travelling from 28 weeks up to and including the 36th completed week of pregnancy

We kindly ask that you provide a doctor’s certificate or a letter from your midwife confirming that you are fit to travel, your stage of pregnancy, and your estimated due date. This helps us ensure your journey with us is as safe and comfortable as possible.

Travelling from 37 weeks up to and including birth

For safety reasons, we’re unable to accept passengers who are 37 weeks pregnant or over at the time of the scheduled sailing. If you are at this stage of pregnancy, you may still be able to travel with Skybus on the St Mary’s to Land’s End route.

Luggage allowance

Children and infants have the same 25 kg luggage allowance as adults. Please keep in mind that this allowance includes any additional items you may be checking in, such as travel cots and pushchairs.

A child’s or infant’s day trip tickets does not include a hold luggage allowance.

Pushchairs

You’re welcome to keep your pushchair onboard Scillonian III with you during the crossing. We simply ask that you’re mindful of other passengers and help keep walkways clear. If a pushchair is particularly large, we may kindly ask that it’s folded away for part of the journey.

Onboard family facilities

Baby change

Baby changing facilities are available on board Scillonian III in the disabled toilet on the upper deck.

Feeding

You’re very welcome to feed your baby in any of the ship’s public areas, but if you’d prefer somewhere private please ask at the Purser’s office.

If you’d like us to warm some baby food or milk, please ask at either of the cafés – we don’t have microwave facilities, but may be able to help.

Can my child meet the Scillonian III Captain?

Please ask at the Purser’s Office, we’ll always do our best for you.

Children travelling alone

Due to the length and nature of the Scillonian III crossing, children under 16 must travel with a responsible adult. The accompanying adult does not need to be on the same booking as the child. A parent or guardian will need to complete a young traveller declaration form at least 48 hours before departure.

These bookings can only be made by contacting our Passenger Relations team.
