Monday 13 April – Scillonian III Operational Update

We’re pleased to confirm that Scillonian III has today successfully completed sea trials following repairs to the starboard engine and will  depart as scheduled on Monday 13th April 2026 at 09:15.

Check-in will be open from 08:00 to 08:45.

We look forward to welcoming passengers on board and thank you for your patience.

Isles of Scilly Travel: Scillonian III Update, Friday 10 April 2026

Following yesterday’s technical fault affecting Scillonian III’s starboard engine, we can confirm that the issue has now been identified.

The fault was caused by a failed rotocap and valve guide, which led to increased wear and elevated air pressure within the crankcase.

Repairs, valve checking and testing are currently being undertaken, and we anticipate that the work will be completed by Sunday 12 April, with the vessel returning to scheduled operations from Monday 13 April 2026.

We would like to take this opportunity to thank you for your patience and understanding.

Isles of Scilly Travel Operational Update – Scillonian III technical issue and weather conditions – Thursday 9 April 2026 & cancelled sailings on Friday 10th and Saturday 11th April

Scillonian III departed Penzance this morning (Thursday 9 April) as scheduled. However, due to a technical fault in the starboard engine, the vessel was required to return to Penzance shortly after departure.

Thursday 9th April Sailing
Our engineering and shoreside support teams have inspected the engine and further work is required. To minimise disruption to passengers and freight supplies Scillonian has departed Penzance at 12.15 and will arrive into St Mary’s at 15.15. Please note that the journey time will take longer due to Scillonian III only operating on her port engine. Scillonian III will depart St Mary’s as scheduled at 4.30pm and we would ask all passengers on this sailing to check-in as advised. All 36-day trip passengers have been refunded and offered complimentary travel for a future date.

Friday 10th April and Saturday 11th April
Due to the increasing swell height and in order to undertake the work required to the starboard engine we have made the difficult decision to cancel sailings on Friday 10th April to allow these essential works to take place. Furthermore the latest forecast has worsened for Saturday 11th April which is now indicating swell heights in excess of 6m. Sailings on 11th April are therefore also regretfully cancelled due to weather. Passengers on board sailings on the 10th April and 11th April will be automatically transferred to Monday 13th April’s sailing.

There is seat availability onboard Scillonian III’s departure this afternoon (Thursday 9th April) at 16.30. Those booked to depart Scilly on cancelled Friday 10th April or Saturday 11th April sailings may transfer to this afternoon’s sailing. Please contact our travel centre on 01736 334220 or visit our office in St Mary’s to transfer to this sailing.

Monday 13th April
Our current outlook is that we plan to resume operations from Monday 13th April.

We will continue to provide updates throughout the day. For those travelling today or tomorrow, please contact our Passenger Relations team to discuss your options: 01736 334220 or email: sales@islesofscilly-travel.co.uk

If your enquiry does not relate to travel within the next three days, we kindly ask that you contact us at a later time.

We would like to thank all passengers for their patience and understanding.

Please continue to check for updates via email, SMS alerts, our X (formerly Twitter) travel updates page, and our website.
