Island Helicopters will be operated in partnership with the Isles of Scilly Steamship Company from Land’s End Airport by Gloucester-based Specialist Aviation Services (SAS). Island Helicopters will use a brand new AW169 helicopter. The class-leading twin-engine aircraft is capable of carrying up to 10 passengers with comfort, safety and speed.
SAS was established more than 30 years ago and started life as a specialist police and medical aviation services businesses. Today they employ over 150 staff, operating and supporting aircraft around the world from their UK headquarters at Gloucestershire Airport and from a base in Belgium.
Land’s End Airport has operated for more than 80 years and is just 15 minutes by road from the A30 dual carriageway in Penzance. It is owned and operated by the Isles of Scilly Steamship Group and handles over 60,000 passengers and more than 10,000 aircraft movements a year. A regular shuttle service links the airport to Penzance just eight miles away.
In recent years the Steamship Group has completely upgraded Land’s End Airport to include a new £1 million terminal building, extra car parking and a £2.6m project to replace the main grass runways with asphalt.
