Scillonian III – Cancelled Sailing, Friday 17th October 2025

Due to a mechanical issue with Scillonian III’s port main engine, the scheduled sailings on Friday 17th October 2025 have been cancelled.

During Scillonian III’s return sailing from St Mary’s on Wednesday 15th October, our engineers detected some excessive vibration on the port main engine. Following further inspection this morning, the issue has been identified, and repair work is already underway to replace the affected part. We are confident that Scillonian III will return to her scheduled service on Saturday 18th October.

Passengers booked to travel on Friday 17th October have been automatically transferred to the sailing on Saturday 18th October. You do not need a new ticket, as your booking has been moved automatically.

Check-in and embarkation: 08:00 - 08:45.

Saturday departure from St Mary's at 16:30

Check-in and embarkation: 15:15 – 16:00.

The previously planned double sailings have been merged into a single return sailing:

Passengers travelling from Penzance to St Mary’s have been transferred to the 09:15 departure from Penzance.

Passengers travelling from St Mary’s to Penzance have been moved to the 13:30 departure from St Mary’s.

Please ensure you check in as follows:

For the 09:15 sailing from Penzance, check-in opens at 08:00 and closes at 08:45

For the 13:30 sailing from St Mary’s, check-in opens at 12:15 and closes at 13:00

Due to a further deterioration in the weather, with conditions now expected to touch severe gale force at times, all sailings on Saturday 16th August have been cancelled.

Sunday 17th August

In addition, the 09:15 Scillonian III sailing from Penzance to St Mary’s on Sunday 17th August 2025 will be delayed due to forecast wind conditions at Lighthouse Pier, Penzance.

Service changes:

Sunday 17th, Penzance → St Mary’s: now expected to depart at 13:00 (check-in 10:30–12:30)

Sunday 17th, St Mary’s → Penzance: will operate at the scheduled time of 16:30 (check-in 15:00–16:00)

Passenger travel information:

Scillonian III – Return to Service Update

Scillonian III – Return to Service Update We are pleased to confirm that Scillonian III has successfully completed her final repairs and has arrived back in Penzance this evening, Friday 21st March. Scillonian III will return to scheduled sailings tomorrow Saturday 22nd March 2025. We sincerely appreciate your patience and understanding during this time and would like to thank you for the kind messages of support—they have meant a great deal to the crew and contractors who have worked to bring her back to service. We look forward to welcoming you back on board.

Scillonian III Operational Update – Service Delay Extended

Following our previous update on Tuesday, we regret to inform you that Scillonian III will not return to service on Friday, 21st March 2025, as initially expected.

During post-layup sea trials, an issue was identified with the gearbox to intermediate shaft coupling, which includes the shaft brake. To address this, further work has been required, including verifying the port-side propeller shaft alignment. This work is ongoing with A&P Falmouth.

Progress Update

The manufacture of a new shaft brake disc has been completed, and precision machining of the coupling bolt holes is currently underway. This includes aligning the new holes through 3 flanges and the replacement of 8 custom made bolts, in a space with limited access to work. However, due to the complexity of the process, each hole is taking approximately nine hours to complete. As of today, Thursday 20th March, six holes have been completed, with the remaining two expected to be finished by Friday morning. Once machining of the holes is complete, the final fitting of bolts will take place. The vessel will then be required to undertake an extended sea trial on Friday afternoon before the vessel can return to service. The A&P team have multiple shifts working 24 hours alongside Scillonian III’s crew to ensure the work is completed as soon as possible. ISSG’s onsite team continue to monitor progress and report regularly on progress, working closely with A&P’s technical team.

Passenger Information

Skybus has today, released a weather advisory for Friday and therefore due to the potential disruption to Skybus flights on Friday, we will not be able to offer a transfer of passengers to Skybus to those affected by the cancellation of Friday’s sailing.

Our Passenger Relations team will contact all affected passengers directly to discuss available options including:

• Transferring to Saturday 22nd March schedule sailing
• Rescheduling to another sailing of your choice.
• Day Trip Cancellations – Unfortunately, all day trips booked for Friday will be cancelled. Our team will arrange full refunds or assist with rebooking for a future date.

We sincerely apologise for this extended disruption and appreciate your continued patience and understanding. Our teams are working to ensure the vessel returns to service as soon as possible.

Scillonian III Operational Notice: Service Delay Update

We regret to inform you that Scillonian III will not be returning to service on Wednesday, 19th March 2025, as originally anticipated. Essential work is still ongoing to address the port-side propeller shaft misalignment, and additional time is required to complete these repairs to ensure the vessel’s long-term reliability.

Our engineering teams, alongside specialist contractors, are working diligently to complete the repairs as quickly as possible.

Passenger Information

All affected passengers will be contacted directly by our Passenger Relations team. We are offering the following options:

• Skybus Upgrade – Passengers can transfer to a Skybus flight at no extra cost.
• Rescheduling – Passengers may choose to move their booking to a later sailing.
• Day Trip Cancellations – Regrettably, all day trip bookings will be cancelled. Our team will be in touch to arrange a full refund or assist with rebooking for a future date.

For those transferring to a Skybus flight, transport between Penzance and Land’s End Airport will be provided where needed. Our Passenger Relations team will be on hand to guide you through your options and answer any questions.

Scillonian III Operational Notice: Cancelled Sailing – Monday 17th March 2025

Further to our update on 10th March, where we informed you that our team of engineers had identified an issue with the port-side propeller shaft, investigations by our supporting contractors have confirmed a misalignment in the shaft requiring further remedial work.

 

Our engineering teams and partners have identified the problem and work is already underway to complete the repair. These repairs are necessary to ensure the long-term reliability of Scillonian III. As a result, we have had to make the difficult decision to cancel the first scheduled sailing of the season on Monday 17th March 2025. This decision has not been taken lightly, but it is essential to ensure the vessel is fully operational and ready for the season ahead. We are working towards resuming sailings on Wednesday 19th March 2025.

 

To minimise the impact of disruption to travel for our passengers, we have scheduled additional Skybus flights on Monday. All passengers due to sail on 17th March will be offered the option to fly with Skybus at no extra cost. Our Passenger Relations team will be contacting all affected passengers directly to discuss travel options including the provision of transport between Penzance and Land’s End Airport.

 

For passengers booked on a day trip, your booking is regrettably cancelled. A member of our team will be in contact, and you will be offered a full refund or have the option to rebook for the next available sailing.

We sincerely apologise for this disruption and appreciate your patience and understanding while we work to ensure Scillonian III is fully prepared for the season. We will continue to provide updates as soon as further information becomes available.
