From white sands and azure waters to vibrant gardens, the Isles of Scilly offers up truly dramatic vistas. So what better backdrop for a spot of open-air theatre?

Summer on the Isles of Scilly is all about spending time outside, drinking in the jaw-dropping scenery. And we’re not just talking about boats bobbing against crystal skies and strolls through flower-flooded fields. The arts and culture calendar is brimming with exciting events too.

This year, two theatre companies are crossing the water to tour their new shows, in stunning outdoor settings.

The Magnificent Three

First up, Miracle Theatre’s  new pistol-spinning, side-splitting show, The Magnificent Three, gives the traditional Western a dose of the company’s famous farce and slapstick. Whether you’re a lover of classic comedy or charming venues, this is the show for you.

On Wednesday 22 July you’ll find Miracle Theatre perched on the shoreline and nestled by dunes, at Karma St. Martin’s . Then on Thursday 23 they’ll be performing at the world famous Tresco Abbey Garden. And finally from Friday 24 to Sunday 26 July you can enjoy evening shows amid a flurry of flora and fauna at St. Mary’s Chaplaincy Gardens.

We recommend taking the day to wander the walkways, lounge among the tropical trees or just stroll along the water’s edge before pulling up a pew beneath the evening sky.

Henry IV and As You Like It

Celebrating 30 years’ retelling Shakespeare’s famous works, The Festival Players are also Scillies-bound this summer. As part of an international tour, the company will be gracing outdoor stages across the islands, offering up its take on Henry IV and As You Like It. With a flourishing reputation, this is one troupe not to be missed. Head to St. Mary’s Chaplaincy Gardens for As You Like It on Saturday 15 August. And catch Henry IV in the same spot on Friday 14 August as well as amid Tresco’s sub-tropical Abbey Garden, on Sunday 16 August. Open-air Shakespeare and alfresco dining – what could be better?

So pack up your hamper, gather your loved ones and step out for an evening of sensational theatre on the Isles of Scilly. Where the show is all around you.

By sea or by sky, your journey to the Scillies will be as enthralling as the shows on stage. Lose yourself in the drama and book your Skybus or Scillonian travel tickets now.
