The Isles of Scilly Steamship Group is taking the hassle out of shopping for residents of the Isles of Scilly by organising special Skybus shopping days to Truro.
The trips started on 17th January and will take place every Wednesday until 21st March, offering islanders the opportunity to shop more easily on the mainland.
Tickets are on sale for all islanders priced at £90 per person, which includes return flights from St Mary’s Airport to Newquay Airport, as well as free taxi transfers between Newquay and Truro city centre.
The day excursions will offer Scilly residents highly discounted travel with a saving of £70 on full-price Skybus day trips and more than £23 off the cost of regular Travel Club tickets – in addition to the taxi transfers.
The Travel Club, operated year-round by the Isles of Scilly Steamship Group, provides permanent residents of the Isles of Scilly with 15% off Scillonian III travel and Skybus fares during peak season and 30% off Skybus travel during the winter.
Mark Howarth, Managing Director of the Isles of Scilly Steamship Group, said: “When we held a series of listening events on the Isles of Scilly last year, islanders told us about the difficulties they faced im getting to Truro. We decided to provide these special Skybus day trips at an affordable price so we can take the hassle and the worry out of traveling to Truro, and make it easier for islanders to visit the mainland when they need to.”
The shopping trip itinerary will see residents departing St Mary’s Airport on a Skybus flight at 9.15am and arrive in Truro, via Newquay Airport and taxi transfer, by around 10.20am.
This will give visitors just over four hours in the city before being picked up at the Truro Coinage Hall taxi rank at 2.35pm. The flight back to St Mary’s will land at approximately 4.15pm.
However, on the last shopping day, Wednesday 21st March, there will be differences to the timings due to the start of the summer schedule.
Residents will depart St Mary’s on the Islander aircraft at 8.45am to arrive in Truro at around 9.55am. The taxi will then pick up from the taxi rank at 3.15 pm with residents due to arrive back to St Mary’s by around 4.55pm.
