Local projects are being reminded to apply for a grant of up to £10,000 from the Isles of Scilly Steamship Group’s Community Fund before the deadline on March 21.

The Community Fund, which has donated £25,000 in funding grants since its launch in 2016, is open to local community projects and charities based in Mid and West Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly.

Entries for the fund are currently being accepted with the closing date for applications set as March 21. This will be the final round of funding for this financial year with the Isles of Scilly Steamship Group’s Community Fund offering a top giveaway of £10,000.

The fund has already donated £3,500 in 2018, contributing to the estimated £1 million the Steamship Group returns to the community each year through subsidised travel for the islanders, NHS flights, sponsorships and charitable donations.

Sharon Sandercock, Marketing and Communications Manager for the Isles of Scilly Steamship Group, said: “We want to remind potential applicants that this is their chance to receive a grant of up to £10,000 for their local group or good cause. The application deadline for the Isles of Scilly Steamship Group’s Community Group Fund is March 21st.

“The fund has already donated £3,500 in 2018, contributing to the £1 million the Steamship Group returns to the community each year. Looking forward we hope we are able to provide even more funding for worthwhile causes in the local area.”

Bids are open to voluntary groups or charities, schools and education establishments, community clubs or societies, and individuals undertaking not-for-profit projects for the benefit of the wider community.

There are four funding grant categories:

  • One project up to £10,000
  • Two projects up to £5,000
  • Two projects up to £2,500
  • Four projects up to £1,250

The Community Fund has awarded grants to a number of projects including £3,000 towards installing CCTV over Priest Cover in West Cornwall, £650 to support a family from the Isles of Scilly who cycled unsupported from John O’Groats to Land’s End to raise money for the Alzheimer’s Society and a donation of £1,500 towards a creative literacy project working with children in West Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly.

Full details, eligibility criteria and application forms are now available from the Steamship Group’s website. All projects are judged by members of an independent panel.
