The Isles of Scilly Steamship Group has appointed Andrew Fogden as its first Freight and Commercial Manager – a new role within the company.
Andrew, who recently relocated to Cornwall from Buckinghamshire, will take responsibility for freight services to the Isles of Scilly, a vital part of the year-round lifeline link the Steamship Group provides to the islands.
His new role will include looking at freight strategy by reviewing the current operation and working closely with our team, the community and suppliers to implement improvements to the service prior to and alongside the introduction of new vessels.
This will also involve a review of the freight booking system and freight delivery logistics in Penzance. Andrew will also be responsible for driving freight revenue through developing existing and new partnerships with suppliers and the community looking to deliver to and from the Isles of Scilly.
He has previously held management positions for logistic companies in the South East of England and has many years of experience in freight contract negotiations.
He said: “I was attracted to the role because of the combination of operational management and the commercial side of the business. I am delighted to join the Steamship Group and become part of the lifeline service it delivers for Scilly.”

With more than 200 employees, including engineers, mariners, pilots, front line workers and office staff, the Steamship Group is one of West Cornwall’s biggest employers.
It has been delivering for Scilly for more than 100 years, connecting the islands with the rest of the country. Established by islanders in March 1920, the business has grown into a major air and sea operation, transporting more than 200,000 passengers and 15,000 tonnes of freight a year.
